Schoonselhof
The tomb of Lodewijk Mortelmans was designed by the sculptor Aimé de Maertelaere.
The same sculptor also designed a bust of Lodewijk (in privat property).

Lodewijk Mortelmans was buried in the Great Honorary Parterre N of the Schoonselhof.
He is buried there with his 2nd wife Gabrielle Radoux.

Maria Gabrielle Mortelmans, Lodewijk's 1st wife, is buried on the Parterre Y of the Schoonselhof,
and close to the bronze grave monument of Peter Benoit (see in the background)

Initially, she was buried in the urban cemetery of the Kiel district of Antwerp (Kielkerkhof). With the closure (1936) and removal (1948) of this cemetery, she, like many others, was interred in the Schoonselhof. The initial grave was larger. Only the central part was retained.
And on the death of their youngest son Guido Mortelmans (°18.12.1916 - †10.01.1917), he was interred and buried with his mother.
His name was not mentioned. We will see if we can rectify this, along with a thorough clean-up.

Groteke Jan Mortelmans Gabrielle Mortelmans' mother was Maria Magdalena Torfs, named within the family as Groteke, lived in with her granddaughters after the death of her second husband. First she lived with Frieda and later with Holda, until her death in 1940. Frieda and Holda Mortelmans married respectively two brothers Hendrik and Jozef Schiltz.
Groteke is thus buried along with her 2nd husband Jan Mortelmans, her 3rd child Maria Gabrielle Mortelmans (plus her youngest son Guido), and her parents Torfs.

Her first marriage to Judocus Antonius Van Waeterschoodt took place on Saturday 07.01.1865. He died the following year.
A second marriage to Jan Mortelmans followed five years later, and was solemnised on Friday 04.03.1870. Sadly, her second husband died 1 year later. Groteke had a son from her first marriage and two daughters from her second marriage.
Her son 'Fons' Van Waeterschoodt married Wilhelmina Peeters and they had several children.
Groteke's first daughter Gabrielle died at the age of 1, while she herself was expecting a second daughter Maria Gabrielle Mortelmans in the meantime.

Merksem
Karel Mortelmans and Isabella Poinjaert, the parents of Frans, Lodewijk and Antoon were buried in a family grave in Merksem cemetery.
Later, their son Antoon Mortelmans and his wife were interred there.

Cemeteries not known
Both the burial places of Maria Matthé (Franck Mortelmans' first wife), and Bertha Schiltz are unknown to us.

Jeanne Mortelmans was the eldest sister of Frans, Lodewijk and Antoon Mortelmans.
She married Emiel Schiltz, lawyer, politician and journalist in Antwerp. Emiel was a cousin of both brothers Schiltz, who married the sisters Frieda and Holda.
Bertha Schiltz their daughter, remained unmarried.
